Insurance when lending out a vehicle on a car sharing platform can be a bit daunting. Here are a few questions and answers that will hopefully help you understand how it works.
Coverage Provided by Hassle-Free Car
Your vehicle is insured under our commercial policy only during the times in which we are in direct control of the vehicle. For example, if we're driving your vehicle at our facility and it is damaged by our team member, we will cover the repair costs of that damage under our insurance policy. However, if your vehicle is parked at our facility and it is damaged by hail or if another guest at the parking facility damages the car, we would not extend any coverage. It would be your own auto insurance policy that would be responsible to pay for the damage just as it would if you were parked anywhere else.
Additional coverage information is available in our Damage Coverage Policies, Terms, & Claim Processing article.
Coverage Provided by Marketplaces
Each marketplace that your vehicle is rented on will provide a level of coverage dependent on the protection plan you choose. For details about what the marketplace protection plan options are, see their websites directly.
Insurance Required by the Owner
Regardless of protection provided by marketplaces or Hassle-Free Car, every vehicle must always have an auto insurance policy purchased for it in accordance with the state laws in which the vehicle is registered. Hassle-Free Car and the marketplaces do not replace the need to have standard auto insurance for your vehicle.
